Training should leave you job-ready. Training should be hands-on. Training should get you job-ready in a reasonable amount of time.

REASONS TO BUY

REASONS TO AVOID

Virtual Beauty Institute is a registered and accredited private career college offering self-paced online lash extensions courses. They offer the fundamental classic eyelash extensions course as well as an advanced volume & hybrid eyelash extensions course. We haven’t seen any other volume course that includes hybrid so this is great added value.

Another benefit is that they go above and beyond to train lash artists on business as well. A lot of schools just stop at lash training, but fail to train lash artists on how to set up and register a business, how to price themselves properly, and how to convert leads into paying clients. Virtual Beauty Institute really delivers in their business section. They thought of both their US and Canadian students so they cover business registration in either country.

Their courses are competitively priced, and are currently 50% OFF!

This is also one of the only courses we found where their volume & hybrid course can be taken with no prior experience in lashing or the beauty industry – though you might find it more challenging without classic first. There are no prerequisites to take their courses.

In terms of quality, no other course we reviewed even compares. The videos are the perfect length and full of information. Other trainers talk in front of a camera “lecture-style” (which can be unnecessarily long and boring), but International Beauty Institute created engaging visuals in their curated videos packed with information.

In terms of hands-on instruction, they guide you through every nuance of the lash application. The videos are close up and clear. You can see exactly how much adhesive is used and how the extension is attached to the natural lash. Their troubleshooting sections show how to solve the most common and unique issues that come up while lashing. You can tell they’re experts in hands-on training.

For proof of work for the certificate, they require photos of the practice lash work first, then they approve you to work on a live model. You do have to find a live model to work on, but that’s the same for almost any online course. For certification approval, you must pass one final before and after. It takes up to 3 days to receive your results. The instructors provide personalized feedback for every submission so you can learn from your mistakes and be celebrated for what you did well.

The level of support is also excellent. They claim to allow up to 2 business days for a reply, but we never waited for more than a few hours for a response.

Upon reading the reviews, it looks like if there are any issues with a kit damaged in transit, they ship out replacement products with no questions asked.

Virtual Beauty Institute is our top pick for quality and affordability.

REASONS TO BUY

REASONS TO AVOID

London Lash Pro is a great pick for Russian volume lashes – IF you’re already a lash artist and aren’t interested in receiving an accredited certificate.

While this course is great for Russian volume, you do need to be a lash artist already, so you can’t take this volume course as a beginner. You must be working in the industry for 3 months and provide proof of your certificate to take the course. If you want an accredited certificate, they refer you to artists where you can learn in person.

The course is fairly affordable, and you can find some great discount codes on their website. One drawback, however, is that you have to purchase the kit separately, and the prices are in GBP, so if you’re in the USA or Canada, you’ll be paying extra for the conversion.

The content is thorough and the demonstration videos are clear and well done. The quality of the work performed is top notch. One drawback is the lecture-style videos. While they contain lots of information, we’re not a fan of these as they can be unnecessarily long. We can understand why the videos are shot this way as it’s easiest for the trainer to put together, however, they’re a touch unprofessional.

The customer support is fast. We wrote in with a support question and received a reply within an hour! If you’re in the USA or Canada, you’ll need to account for the time difference, however.

They also offer ongoing support through email, social media, or live chat on their website.

We recommend this course in addition to a classic eyelash extensions course and if you’re looking for solid information, but not if you’re seeking to become certified to perform volume lashes.

3. Xtreme Lashes

REASONS TO BUY

REASONS TO AVOID

We rated this as the best online live option, but this is the only option in this list where we didn’t actually take the course ourselves, so be advised that this review is based on available information and some back and forth with the company.

While expensive (over $2000 USD), this course’s kit comes with a massage table, cart and more product than any other course, so you have the potential to make your money back once you build up your client base.

For prerequisites in the USA, they require you to hold licensing (not certification) in either the medical, dental, or beauty industry.

How this course works is once you sign up, they send you information to review ahead of time before your live online training.

The course is 4 days with a live instructor conducted online. You start on day 1 on your mannequin (provided in your kit). On days 2, 3 & 4 you will need a live model and do live applications with your instructor online. The 4th day is the final application and testing day. One drawback is if you work full-time, you’ll need to take time off work to take this course.

For ongoing support, you would be assigned a Customer Success Manager that will guide you after training to success. They also have a full customer service department open 7 days a week for anything you may need from application questions, orders, account questions, etc.

Another drawback is that you can’t refer back to your online training as it was conducted live with an instructor.

We’d recommend this for those who really like real-time feedback and who might need a little extra help with getting started.

4. Fixe Beauty
Rated 2 out of 5

REASONS TO BUY

REASONS TO AVOID

Fixe Beauty is a popular course, but while they are the most budget-friendly option, there are some drawbacks.

While the courses are priced low, they only come with a starter kit, so you’ll have to spend more money on products fairly soon. It seems like the course is a gateway to getting you to buy their products.

Something that deters us from this course is that the course has low quality videos and feels like it’s trying to sell you more products. There’s quite a bit of self-promotion in the course which feels like a money-grab.

While there is lots of information, some of the lectures can be too long, and unprofessional. There’s a long zoom interview where they use palm trees in the background. There’s also a selfie-style “lecture” taken pool-side in Mexico. While it can be argued that this is to add some fun and authenticity into the learning, it came across as unprofessional to us.

With the demonstration videos, the shot composition is too far away and the zoomed-in shots are blurry, making it hard to see things like how much glue is used when dipping the extension, or how the extension is attaching to the natural lash. When they do their full demonstration on a mannequin head, the lash extensions are attached at noticeably different lengths (where they should be attached 0.5mm-1mm from the lash line) which is incorrect.

A positive for Fixe Beauty is the amount of theory information. Fixe Beauty does include lots of information on adhesive theory, lash direction, prepping for an appointment and how to register a business. There’s quite a bit of reading to do, but many of the readings are paired with a video lecture and they provide links to resources like beds, carts and lamps and products to buy.

On a side note, we were supposed to receive the free mini kit, and when there was an issue with the delivery they requested an additional fee to reship the kit.

To receive your certificate, you need to submit 3 photos and these can be a mix of live and non-live models (non-live meaning a mannequin head). It takes 7 business days to receive your results.

A plus with Fixe Beauty is their community. They’ve built up a facebook group which allows you to post for assistance, or post your work for feedback, or connect with other group members. They also have an app for their community.

You can choose to take just the classic eyelash extensions, or you can purchase classic, volume, and mega volume in the same package. All prices are in USD, so if you’re Canadian, you’ll pay extra for the currency conversion.

Overall, while Fixe Beauty is budget-friendly, it might be better suited for lash enthusiasts or as a second course and not for those seeking to become a professional as they’re a lash brand and not a credible school.

5. Udemy “The Ultimate Eyelash Extension Course”

by LIALASH Pro
Rated 2 out of 5

REASONS TO BUY

REASONS TO AVOID

We included a Udemy course as it’s probably the cheapest option you could find, but we’ll lay out how it compares to other courses.

The artist who teaches it is Lia from LIALASH Pro who is a credible name in the industry.

The lessons are mostly lecture-style videos of the trainer speaking to the camera, which we don’t prefer. Only a few shots of the service are inserted throughout lectures, and a lot of the action is happening too far away from the camera to see clearly.

The lash application videos don’t have the best shot framing (too far away) to tell what’s going on, the videos are a little dark, and the camera is continually moving (not on a tripod). This makes it difficult to see how the lash extensions are being applied to the natural lashes.

The eye styling and photography sections have some great tips, and go into more detail than other courses. The professionalism of the videos compares more to a YouTube style, but the amount of information and content of the videos is good.

What really makes this course not suitable for beginners is it lacks hands-on instruction. The artist lectures about application, but it doesn’t guide you step-by-step through the application process.

Overall, it was good for additional theoretical learning, but not for certifying you to perform the service. They even recommend taking it in conjunction with a real certificate course.
